#8WordStory

Created with Queensland Writers Centre in collaboration with the goa Community Partnership Program.

From 16 October to 24 November 2017, we challenged writers around Australia to put pen to billboard and tell a story using only eight words.

The best of the stories were selected for publication on a network of digital billboards throughout Brisbane and the Gold Coast.

Why eight?

We didn’t just pluck the number out of the air – not quite anyway. A billboard gives you a few seconds to read, register, and understand. And eight words gives a writer just enough canvas to make an impact.

It is the number where storytelling and advertising meet.

Ten Thousand Submissions

This project drew an enormous audience. More than a million people saw and heard published stories on billboards, on ABC Radio and in Quest newspapers. Over its six-week duration, the project received a little over 10,000 individual story submissions.
